Randazzo's siren
Luca Sartoni - CC2.0
In Randazzo, a town on the slopes of Etna, the sound of a siren recalls an ancient tradition.
Every day a siren call spreads throughout the village at very specific times: at 8, noon, 13 and 17, hours that in the past marked the beginning and end of working days in the countryside. Today this historic function, dating back to the postwar period, still persists.
