Targa Florio
Targa Florio was the oldest endurance car race in the world and took place on the undulating and winding Madonie roads.
The route developed in the heart of the Madonie, descending from the mountain to the sea, and then ascending the mountains, crossing enchanting villages and unique sceneries.
The Targa Florio was born at the behest of Vincenzo Florio, an entrepreneur from Palermo from a wealthy family. From 1955 to 1973 the race was part of the FIA Sport Prototype World Championship. Subsequently, for safety reasons, in 1978 it was transformed into the homonymous rally. Together with the Mille Miglia it is one of the best-known Italian road races and, with the Carrera Panamericana, one of the major world road races.
