The tulips of the Blufi Sanctuary

The field in front of the Sanctuary of the Madonna dell'Olio di Blufi fills with thousands of splendid red tulips every year.
In the period from March to May these red tulips grow spontaneously in a field cultivated with wheat, among almond and olive trees, creating a unique and extremely suggestive landscape.
It is the flowering of the Early Tulip or Tulipano di Raddi, a species resistant to the plowing of the land, as the bulbs are found at about 50 cm of depth. Tulips only grow in this area and are absent from wastelands. This curious phenomenon attracts tourists and photographers every year.
