Vulcan and the myth of Osiris
The myth of Osiris, the Egyptian god of the underworld and judge of the dead, is closely connected to the island of Vulcan.
The god Osiris was believed to be able to dominate the winds and above all to preside over the souls of the dead. The island of Vulcano has always been considered by mythology the place where the winds were enclosed and it was also long considered the place where souls were judged before reaching Purgatory.
Many centuries later, Christianity imagines the purgatory within Vulcan so that souls are cleansed of their sins.
