Cave of San Filippo in Agira
The Grotta di San Filippo in Agira is the place where, according to tradition, San Filippo lived. It was a place of prayer, meditation and furious struggles with the devil. According to popular tradition, the footprint left by the saint during one of his furious fights with devils can be found in the cave.
On the wall to the right of the altar, an image of St. Philip is still barely perceptible.
From the point of from a historical point of view, the cave represents a hypogeum of the late Roman cemetery of Agira which for several centuries was used as a stable, where the arcosoli were used as mangers.
