Neighborhood of Rocche of San Pietro in Agira
The neighborhood of the Rocche di San Pietro ad Agira is one of the oldest areas of the city and dates back to the rule of the Arabs in Sicily, which survived contemporary urban interventions because it is located in a decentralized position with respect to the city center.
This area, including between via Diodorea and via Raddusa, it is characterized by a particular urban fabric consisting of blind alleys that distribute the accesses to the houses, courtyards, stairways and sharp bends. The ancient noble palaces of the Rocche di San Pietro district, which overlook the main streets with splendid balconies, are all characterized by the presence of an internal courtyard where the entrances to the various houses are located, some of which can be reached by external stairways that lead to higher levels.
