Church of the Holy Crucifix in Aidone
The Church of the SS. Crocifisso in Aidone, locally called the Church of Signuruzzu, is a small place of worship in the village.
The church was built in the early twentieth century along the path that leads from the city of Aidone to the fields and stone quarries. It stands on the site where, in the nineteenth century, there was already a votive shrine dedicated to the Holy Crucifix, called the Crucifix of Providence.
The simple façade, bordered by flat pilasters, is crowned by a triangular tympanum. In the center, above the rectangular portal, there is a metope with an inscription, surmounted in turn by a cross. At the top left stands a small bell tower.
Inside, an ancient wooden crucifix was venerated, which is why the church is known as the church of the SS. Signuruzzu. Currently, this crucifix, by an unknown artist, is kept in the church of Sant'Anna.
