Exhibition of Sicilian Puppets in Caltagirone
The Museo Teatro Stabile dei Pupi Siciliani in Caltagirone is located in the same rooms that hosted the " Compagnia dei Pupi ", founded in 1918 thanks to Don Giovanni Russo and active until 1989, the year of the death of Gesualdo Pepe, who until the end will be director, impresario, set up and scriptwriter of the small Calatino building.
The exhibition traces the historical path of the work of Sicilian puppets through a collection of puppets of the period between 1918 and 1920, period posters, armor, costumes, scenarios, representations and audiovisual supports. The collection of puppets includes seventy subjects ranging in size from 1.20 to 1.45 meters, entirely built in wood. and fifty spare heads that allow you to have a large number of characters at your disposal.The puppets are dressed in satin and velvet suits and equipped with hand-crafted copper and iron armor.
