The Luigi Colaleo Collection International Nativity Museum is part of the vast civic museum of Caltagirone, which includes the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, the Museum of Caltagirone and Sicilian Historic Villas, and the Civic Museum at Bourbon prison.
The museum was born on a cultural basis offered by the ancient and prestigious nativity scene tradition of the city of Caltagirone: renowned for the production of ceramic and terracotta artifacts, local craftsmanship still today is linked to the Christmas holidays giving life to evocative open-air displays, which each year represent the Nativity and attract numerous visitors.
The collection, a gift from the lawyer Luigi Colaleo, includes numerous precious specimens from all over the world and a library specializing in art history and cribs.
