Papardura Sanctuary in Enna
The Sanctuary of Papardura in Enna is a religious building located on a rocky ridge from which you can enjoy a splendid panorama.
The place where the sanctuary stands is linked to a legend, its name gives rise to different interpretations.
The simple gabled façade has an austere appearance and has two large corner parastras and a central door surmounted by a rose window.
The interior, with a single nave, richly decorated, represents a major expression of the Baroque in central Sicily .
Of particular value are the inlaid wooden ceiling and the stuccos dating back to the 17th century from the school of Giacomo Serpotta.
Inside the church there are works of notable artistic value: the twelve statues of the Apostles and the numerous canvases and frescoes by the Flemish painter Borremans.
Every year, in the month of September at the Sanctuary of Papardura the Feast of the Most Holy Crucifix takes place.
