Convent of the Capuchins in Licodia Eubea
The Capuchin convent in Licodia eubea and the adjacent Church of Santa Maria degli Angeli are located in the northern part of the town, in the ancient Ariceddi district. Both buildings date back to 1568.
The primitive physiognomy of the convent was modified by the collapse which took place in 1693, following the earthquake of the Val di Noto, and the left wing remained standing where the sixteenth-century cells, part of the cloister and the small chapel, located on the same corridor as the cells.
The portico of the cloister, in carved stone, with cross vaults and the terrace above, was built in the first half of the 17th century. A coat of arms with the heraldic insignia of the Santapau hangs over a door in the inner courtyard.
