Church of San Domenico in Militello in Val di Catania
The former Church of San Domenico in Militello in Val di Catania, now the Municipal Auditorium, and the annexed former convent constitute an important complex of the village.
The complex was built in 1613, at the behest of Prince Francesco Branciforte, suffered extensive damage following the earthquake of 1693, and was subsequently renovated.
The church has a large classical façade: it is delimited by two pairs of pilasters that support the trabeation and ends with a spire-shaped tympanum. In the center there is a single portal flanked by pilasters that support a broken arched tympanum. Above the portal, in line with it, there is a rectangular window surmounted by a tympanum.
The interior, with a single nave and a deep presbytery, is decorated with fine stucco and houses six carved stone chapels.
Some of the works once kept in the church are now in the Church of Santa Maria della Stella and in the Church of San Benedetto.
