Historical Archive of Mineo
The Mineo Historical Archive is located in the west wing of the atrium of the Town Hall. It preserves more than eight hundred thousand papers that cover, albeit with some gaps, a time span that goes from 1409 to 1960. Among the documents we note the presence of some parchments dating back to between 1330 and 1564; of important privileges that testify the importance of the city of Mineo within the Royal Estate. Of particular historical importance is the "Ransom", a contract with which the city obtained many privileges from Charles V in 1542, including the "Mero e Misto Impero" and the title of Giocondissima.
The remarkable documentary heritage of the Historical Archive it represents a precious testimony, immediate and direct, for the study of the political, administrative, social and economic life of Mineo and its territory.
