Ducezio Castle in Mineo
The Ducezio di Mineo Castle, today reduced to ruins, is located in the highest part of the city. It is a fortified foyer which with Ducezio assumed great strategic and defensive importance due to its particular dominant position on the plain below. Renovated later, it became famous for the wedding that took place there in 1361. In fact, Constance of Aragon and Frederick III the simple married here.
Of the ancient castle after the terrible earthquake of 1693 only part of the ancient walls and the central tower remained.
