Diocesan Museum in Piazza Armerina
The Diocesan Museum of Piazza Armerina, housed in the premises of the former Bishop's Palace, houses ecclesiastical material cultural assets of the Diocese.
The museum houses a permanent exhibition of works of art of ecclesiastical origin entitled "Recoveries and restitutions. Acquisitions and restorations in the Diocese of Piazza Armerina”, and temporary exhibitions of contemporary art on the mezzanine floor.
Among the most valuable works kept inside the museum, worthy of note are: the large canvas of Sant'Andrea apostle from the end 16th century; the tella of the Immaculate Conception dating back to 1603; the Deposition, a work from the mid-17th century; numerous wooden works dating back to the 17th century.
The Diocesan Museum is also equipped with a library with a reading room, a room for projections and conferences, and spaces for educational activities. There is also a laboratory for the restoration of liturgical fabrics and vestments.
