Church of San Basilio in Regalbuto
The church of San Basilio il Grande in Regalbulto is the mother church of the village.
It is believed that the building stands on the site where, in the Middle Ages, there was a small monastery of Greek-Byzantine Basilian monks, and that in A basilica-type church was built in the 16th century.
The facade is characterized by the presence of a tall bell tower, made up of a tower with a pyramidal ascent, which dominates Piazza della Repubblica.
The interior consists of a vast central nave which opens onto the side chapels through arches.
Inside there are several works of considerable artistic value: the organ; the majestic side altar of San Vito rich in polychrome marble with a wooden statue of the saint from which it takes its name; the altar of the SS. Sacrament; the nineteenth-century painting of the Sacred Heart.
On the side altars there are five canvases, those of San Basilio and the Apostles Peter and Paul stand out.
Of great artistic value arestrong> the paintings of the Via Crucis. The polychrome marble floor, which form vast geometric designs is from 1886.
