Church of the Immaculate Conception in Valguarnera
The Church of the Immaculate Conception in Valguarnera Caropepe is an important place of worship in the village.
It was built between 1600 and 1650 at the behest of Don Lorenzo Maria Polizzi as the church of the Filippini convent and was dedicated to the Madonna delle Grazia. Only in 1679 was it dedicated to the Immaculate Conception. In 1829 it was taken over by the reformed friars, who enriched the sacred building with paintings on the walls and furnishings. Following the suppression of religious bodies in 1867, the building was abandoned and the sacred furnishings were kept in other churches. It was reopened for worship in 1883, on the occasion of the arrival of the Sisters Servants of the Poor.
The interior, with a nave, preserves a valuable Byzantine icon of high artistic value and the statue of Mary, Holy Virgin Immaculate purchased by the Sisters Servants of the Poor.
