The Mechanical Nativity of Castelvetrano
During the Christmas holidays, from 8 December to 31 January, the famous Castelvetrano Mechanical Crib usually is set up in the Church of Purgatory in Castelvetrano.
The mechanical crib of Castelvetrano was made by Vito Guccione using only raw materials natural such as logs, moss, grass, stones and cork. The nativity scene features over 70 different figures created by the artist on a floor of over 70 square meters. The work is enriched by a complex system of mechanisms that make it possible to narrate an entire day, from morning to night, with the simulations of sunrise, sunset and night with the moon and stars, thanks to a system optical fiber lighting, and the reproduction of sounds and noises and particular effects such as the smoke coming out of the baker's oven, the water boiling in the shepherds' pot, the sound effects of the animals, the appearance of the angel...
