Cattafi Carnival 2025 - San Filippo del Mela

The Carnival in Cattafi, an ancient farmhouse that is now a hamlet of San Filippo del Mela, is among the oldest carnivals in Sicily and every year attracts numerous spectators attracted by the originality of its mask: u Scacciuni. U Scacciuni impersonates a brave man, has long conical hats, colorful clothes with a skirt, and a myriad of colored ribbons. The costume of the Scacciuni symbolizes war booty and recalls an episode from the mid-14th century when a group of valiant local peasants fought courageously managing to repel a Turkish invasion.
