The Carnival in Piana degli Albanesi, the "Kalivari ju mjuath", takes place according to an ancient popular tradition which, since ancient times, has desecrated the classic values of patriarchal Sicily, and makes women the protagonist of this festival. The woman, strictly dressed in a mask, has the right to choose, mock and invite men to the ball waiting to be chosen. On festive Saturdays and on Shrove Tuesday, the recreational clubs located along the main street are used as ballrooms specially decorated with carnival material. Women are allowed to enter only if dressed in masks.
