The feast of San Vito in Mazara del Vallo, known as "Lu fistinu di Santu Vitu" or "Feast of the sea and the Masses", takes place in the penultimate week of August, the anniversary of the transfer of the patron saint.
The celebrations they begin with "the Announcement of the Feast", during which a group reminiscent of the Baroque proclamation of the feast, exiting the Bishop's Palace along the main streets of the city announcing the beginning of the celebrations. In addition, the most early morning procession in Italy takes place: at 3:30 in the morning on a festive Wednesday, the Simulacrum is carried in procession from the Church of San Vito in Urbe to the Church of San Vito a Mare. On the occasion of the celebrations, the traditional Parade with living paintings takes place, a sacred representation with 300 characters in period costume that illustrates the most significant phases in the life of the Saint, and the procession of the Saint which ends with the embarkation of the simulacrum of the saint at sea .
