Madonna del Soccorso summer fest in Sciacca

The feast of the Madonna del Soccorso is celebrated in Sciacca on February 2 and August 15. The celebrations of February 2 recalling the miracle of liberation from the plague that loomed over the town.
The summer festival begins on the last Saturday of July when the statue of the Madonna del Soccorso, located in the Mother Church, is placed in the presbytery. The translation of the statue is carried out by the sailors, according to an ancient tradition.

The evocative procession of the marble simulacrum of the Madonna, patron saint of Sciacca, on a seventeenth-century vara adorned with gold, silver and coral jewels donated by devotees, carried on the shoulders of a hundred barefoot sailors.
