Feast of Infant Jesus of Gancia in Palermo
In Palermo in the Church of Santa Maria degli Angeli "La Gancia", the celebrations in honor of the Child Jesus take place on January 6. On the occasion of the feast there is a solemn procession during which the small statue of the Child, placed on an artistic fercolo eighteenth-century, is carried through the streets of the city and in the small port of S. Erasmo where, in memory of the tradition of the discovery at sea, the image is taken from the fercolo and delivered to the Rector of the Church S. Maria degli Angeli della Gancia, the which gives the Holy Blessing with the sacred image to all present and on the sea. In Piazza S. Teresa alla Kalsa, the procession stops again to let three men dressed as Magi, can offer their gifts: gold, frankincense and myrrh to the King of kings. Finally, the procession arrives in front of the parish church of the Pietà, where a hut is set up for the occasion, so that the baby is taken from the fercolo again, the living nativity scene begins, animated by ancient songs in Palermo and Sicilian.
