Winter festival of San Corrado in Noto
The winter festival of Noto's patron saint, San Corrado, is celebrated every year on February 19th. On the last Sunday of August the summer party takes place.
On February 19 the evocative procession of the silver urn containing the remains of the hermit saint takes place, carried on the shoulders by the Bearers. The urn is preceded by the Confraternities and the "Cili", large decorative candles supported by wooden stems in which some episodes of the Saint's life story are represented, followed by the Music Band and the faithful, some of whom choose to make their vow in the "voyage scausu", that is the "barefoot journey" from one's own city.
The feast ends on the following Sunday, the eighth of the feast, with a second procession of the patron saint.
Every ten years the urn of St. Corrado is carried in solemn procession to the Hermitage, the Sanctuary dedicated to the Saint, located five kilometers from the city.
