Feast of Our Lady of the Bridge in Partinico
In Partinico, the celebrations in honor of Maria Santissima del Ponte take place from Easter Monday until Sunday in Albis, that is the first Sunday after Easter. The summer festival takes place in August.
Starting from Easter Monday, prayers are held at the sanctuary of the Madonna del Ponte , masses, praises, vespers and adorations. On the Thursday preceding the feast day, the pilgrimage of the faithful takes place to the sanctuary where the dressing of the painting with the robe and ornaments will take place. In the afternoon, after the celebration of Holy Mass, there is the nocturnal pilgrimage to the Sanctuary of the Madonna del Ponte, with the faithful carrying lighted torches in their hands. The feast day ends with the traditional "fanfarriata" performed by the band of Maria SS. del Ponte.
On feast Sunday, various Eucharistic celebrations take place in the morning. At precisely noon, the picture with the robe and ornaments comes down from the altar and is carried in procession. Traditionally, if the Madonna were to come out late, it would no longer belong to the inhabitants of Partinico but to those of Alcamo and, in the following half hours, respectively, to those of Balestrate and Trappeto. The painting of the Madonna del Ponte arrives in Partinico in the evening, after stopping at the chapels scattered along the route, where it is placed on a varar preceded by the "cili", that is, candles decorated for festivities, which represent the noble families of the town and carried in procession through the city streets.
