Feast of the Madonna of Ognina in Catania
The Festa della Madonna di Ognina in Catania takes place every year in the month of September and is the second most attended religious festival in the city of Catania.
In fact, the Ognina festival is not considered by the people of Catania as a simple district but as a patronal feast: the ancient traditions and origins of the feast, the great devotion and participation, the numerous cultural and recreational initiatives make the feast of the Madonna di Ognina one of the most important events of the Catania summer.
The feast is foreseen a rich religious calendar: Eucharistic celebrations, solemn vespers, the traditional "unveiling of the simulacrum of Nostra Signora di Ognina" and the solemn procession to the sea and those through the streets of the neighborhood.
A rich cultural program is organized alongside the religious program and recreational: the fish festival, sports tournaments, musical and entertainment shows.
