Feast of San Bartolomeo in Lampedusa
On the island of Lampedusa, the celebrations in honor of San Bartolomeo, patron saint of the island, take place on 24 August. On this day, according to tradition, the Lampedusan families gather around a pyramid of wooden material and light a bonfire, in memory of the torture to which the Saint was sentenced. During the day, various initiatives are organized including spectacular fireworks over the sea.
