Feast of San Ciro in Marineo
The Feast of San Ciro in Marineo takes place on 31 January, the anniversary of the martyrdom of the Saint, and on the penultimate Sunday of August, the day on which the arrival of the relic in the town is remembered.
In the month in January the festival called by the locals the festa di Santu Ciru puvureddu takes place, since, compared to the summer event, it is a poorer festival which includes only religious moments.
In the month the big festival takes place in August. Among the most significant moments of the festival we remember: the Cunutta, i.e. the procession of devotees on the back of mules and horses who bring grain, wheat and gold as gifts to the Patron Saint. Event that recalls the pagan rites of thanksgiving to the goddess Ceres for the good harvest; the Demonstrance of San Ciro, an evocative traveling sacred representation; the Solemn Procession of the simulacrum of San Ciro through the streets of the village.
