Feast of San Gaetano in Salina
In Rinella, on the island of Salina, on 6 and 7 August the celebrations take place in honor of San Gaetano, the Saint of Providence who, in order to defend the poor from usurers, promoted, in 1539, the institution of the Monte di Pietà from which then the Banco di Napoli will originate. The origins of this festival are probably to be found in the historical commercial ties that the village had established with the merchants of Campania.
On the occasion of the celebrations, the procession of the simulacrum of the saint takes place through the streets of the town and various Eucharistic celebrations.
