Feast of San Gandolfo in Polizzi Generosa
San Gandolfo is the patron saint of Polizzi Generosa and every year, on the third Sunday of September, a feast in his honor is organized in the village. The feast is preceded by an octave of prayer celebrated in the Mother Church.
The celebrations begin on Saturday afternoon with the first procession of the Saint through the streets of the town. In the afternoon of Sunday a second religious procession takes place during which the relics of the Saint are carried in procession by the faithful, preserved in a precious silver urn dating back to the sixteenth century.
On Monday afternoon the devotees bring back the statue of San Gandolfo in the hermitage.
The fairs and the games of fire are the background to these three days of celebration.
