Feast of San Giacomo in Gratteri
The Patron Saint of Gratteri, San Giacomo Apostolo, is celebrated on July 25, the day of the liturgical anniversary and in the month of September when the great Patronal Festival takes place.
In the month of July, a religious program takes place and the solemn Translation of the image of San Giacomo takes place in the Mother Church. The festivities are accompanied by musical, folkloristic and entertainment performances.
The Patronal Festival is organized in the month of September. It is believed that the origins of this festival can date back to the 12th century.
The opening of the celebrations in honor of the Patron Saint are announced by the display of the flag of San Giacomo and by the ringing of the bells of all the churches in the village.
The festivities culminate on the day of celebration with the solemn procession of the Relics and the Simulacrum of San Giacomo Apostolo which, placed on an artistic vara, is carried on the shoulders of at least sixteen men through the streets of the historic centre.
At the end of the procession the traditional distribution of the blessed grapes takes place
