Feast of San Giorgio in Piana degli Albanesi

Traditions

In Piana degli Albanesi, the celebrations in honor of the patron saint San Giorgio Megalomartire take place on April 23. The equestrian statue is carried on the shoulders, through the streets of the town, by the young people of the Committee of San Giorgio who, by tradition, do not exceed the age of 26. The bearers lead the simulacrum through the streets of the town, make the statue dance in front of the Church of Odigitria, and finally stop in front of the Church of San Giorgio where the crowd receives the blessing with the Holy Relic.
During the days of party are organized the exhibition of Agricultural Vehicles, the day of the Horse with parade and blessing of the horses, and tastings of typical products.
