Feast of San Giovanni in Chiaramonte Gulfi
The Feast of San Giovanni in Chiaramonte Gulfi takes place every year in June, on the occasion of the birth of the Saint. It is a very ancient feast: the cult of San Giovanni a Chiaramonte Gulfi was introduced by the Knights of Malta in the XIII century.
The feast day is preceded by a busy liturgical calendar.
The day of the on the eve of the feast the evocative moment of the unveiling of the simulacrum takes place, during which the veil covering the Saint is removed amidst the acclamations of the devotees. In the evening, shows and music take place in the square.
On the morning of the day of the feast, after the religious celebration, the simulacrum of the saint is placed in the center of the church for veneration by the faithful. In the evening, the Confraternity of San Vito offers a large candle to the Saint, who is led out of the church, wrapped in the throwing of nnazarieddi (strips of colored paper), and carried in procession through the streets of the center .
On the occasion of the celebrations in honor of San Giovanni Battista, numerous other events are organised: culinary festivals, parties and shows in the square, moments of music and entertainment.

10:00 Symphonic marches in Piazza Duomo.
11:00 Solemn Eucharistic Celebration with panegyric, presided over by the Parish Priest.
12:00 Festive ringing in all the churches of the city and firing of cannon shots.
Holy Mass.
14:30 The Simulacrum of the Baptist will be carried on the shoulder to the center of the Church for veneration, immediately afterwards the children will be blessed through the intercession of the Holy Protector.
18:00 As per tradition, the Confraternity of San Vito will offer a candle to the Protector Saint.
18:30 Symphonic marches in Piazza Duomo, performed by the city bands.
19:00 Solemn Pontifical presided over by H.E. Monsignor Giuseppe La Placa, Bishop of Ragusa, in the presence of the Confraternities and the civil and military authorities. At the end the Mayor will renew the consecration of the City to the Holy Protector by lighting the lamp in front of the Simulacrum.
20:00 “SCIUTA” OF SAINT JOHN THE BAPTIST, PROTECTOR OF CHIARAMONTE GULFI.
The Venerated Relic and the Wonderworker Simulacrum of the Baptist will be welcomed in the churchyard packed with the Faithful.
Start of the Procession with the participation of the clergy, of all the Brotherhoods, with their characteristic banners, of the civil and military authorities of Chiaramonte Gulfi.
Visit to the Churches of Santa Maria di Gesù, San Vito and San Filippo.
21:30 Musical entertainment by the “MP2 Acoustic Trio” group.

23:00 Entrance of the Simulacrum in Piazza Duomo, where the Preacher Fra Carlo Moro OAD will briefly describe the figure of the Saint.
23:30 Pyromusical show, at the end of which St. John enters his Church.
