Feast of San Giovanni Nepomuceno in Stazzo - Acireale
The Feast of the Patron Saint San Giovanni Nepomuceno in Stazzo, a seaside village of Acireale, takes place every year on the second Sunday of August. In addition to the liturgical celebrations, the festival includes an evening procession that winds through all the streets of the village.
A folkloric event that attracts onlookers and tourists every year is the pantomime of the Scherzo del Pesce ( which traditionally takes place on the eve of the festival): the local fishermen are busy chasing a swordfish that they almost manage to catch. At the end of this hunt, the fishermen will lose their duel and the swordfish will sink their boat.
