Feast of San Giuseppe in Favara

The Feast of San Giuseppe in Favara is celebrated on 19 March, the day of the liturgical anniversary, and in the month of August, a celebration in which many emigrant citizens take part.
It is a very heartfelt and participatory celebration and includes a rich religious calendar, some traditional rites that have been handed down for generations and a rich program of events that enriches the days of celebration.
The most traditional moment of the festival is the preparation, in the various neighborhoods of the city, of the Minestra di San Giuseppe, also known as Maccu di San Giuseppe. The families devoted to the Saint set up a table, on which the image of Saint Joseph is placed, where4 the traditional soup based on legumes and vegetables is shared with friends and neighbors.
Other highlights of the celebration are the collection of goods with caparisoned horses, the Solemn Eucharistic Celebration and the traditional Procession of the Simulacrum of Saint Joseph through the streets of Favara.
