Feast of San Nicola in Palazzo Adriano
The Feast of Saint Nicholas at Palazzo Adriano takes place on 6 December, the day of the liturgical anniversary, and includes important celebrations in the Byzantine rite. Saint Nicholas is the patron saint of Palazzo Adriano.
On festive days, virgineddi, i.e. soups made with rice, beans and lentils, are traditionally offered. It is tradition that on the evening of the eve of the feast, in the convent of the Basilian nuns, the blessing and distribution of the virgineddi takes place. On the occasion of the celebrations, the St. Nicholas Bread is also prepared which is blessed and distributed to those present on the day of the celebration.
The solemn moment of the celebrations is the procession of the Simulacrum of the Patron Saint through the streets of village.
