The Feast of St. Anthony of Padua in Leonforte is celebrated on June 13.
The main moments of this day of celebration are: the celebration of the morning Holy Mass which ends with the blessing of the children, a rite that recalls the particular the predilection that the saint had for children and one of the miracles performed for one of them, and the evening celebration at the end of which the solemn procession begins with the simulacrum of the saint carried on the shoulders by the faithful and accompanied by the musical band. The procession stops at the Capuchin church where we witness the firing of fireworks.
Characteristics are the votive tablecloths given to the Saint by the faithful for the graces received which are hung on the fercolo and the prayers addressed to Saint Anthony during the procession.
The feast is preceded by a thirteen-day period of prayer and reflection, known as “Tridicina”. The number thirteen is not accidental but occurs both in the number of miracles attributed to the saint and handed down by tradition, and in the prayer formulas that accompany this moment of recollection.
Parallel to the religious celebrations, from 11 to 13 June, the fair of Sant'Antonio is held.
