Feast of Sant'Euplio in Francavilla di Sicilia
The Feast of Sant'Euplio, Patron Saint of the city of Francavilla di Sicilia, takes place on the last Sunday of August.
This is a very ancient festival: it is believed that the cult of the martyr saint and deacon from Catania was introduced in the Francavilla valley and in Val Demone by the Italo-Greek Basilian monks.
On the occasion of the celebrations in honor of Sant'Euplio there are repeated pilgrimages of the faithful of the towns of the Alcantara Valley and of the surrounding territories, as a sign of common veneration, and a rich religious program which culminates with the procession of the Simulacrum of the Patron Saint which crosses all the places in the village linked to Euplian devotion, such as the historic San Paolo district.
Alongside the religious program, a rich recreational program is organized by the districts of the town with tastings of typical local dishes, folkloristic, musical and entertainment shows. p>
