Feast of Santa Barbara in Tremestieri Etneo
The Feast of Santa Barbara in Tremestieri Etneo traditionally takes place on 4 December, the day of the liturgical anniversary, and is one of the most important religious festivals for the town as Santa Barbara, together with the Madonna della Pace, is the Patron Saint of Tremestieri Etneo.
The celebrations begin with the reception of the reliquary bust of Santa Barbara from the city of Paternò. In the following days the relics are taken to retirement homes, parish communities and schools in the area. Among the most evocative moments of the celebrations are the traditional offering of flowers and candles, the evening procession of the Relics and the procession of fire engines. The culmination of the festival is the Solemn Procession of the Simulacrum of the Patron Saint and the Relics through the streets of the town.
