Feast of the Holy Crucifix in Corleone

The Feast of the Holy Crucifix of the Chain in Corleone takes place in the month of September. It is a very ancient celebration and is widely attended by the entire population.
The first news of the icon of the SS. Crucifix of the Chain date back to 1600 and according to tradition the effigy was found in a well in the district of San Giuliano, near Largo Catena, from which its name derives.
On the eve of the festival, the pilgrimage to the well where, according to tradition, the Sacred Effigy was found.
The rich religious program of the festival culminates on the day of the exaltation of the cross, during which the solemn procession of the very valuable wooden crucifix, dating back to the 16th century, takes place on the artistic launch accompanied by the brotherhoods.
A rich recreational program is also organized on the occasion of the celebrations: the traditional Bread Festival, in honor of the Lord of Bread< /em>, term with which the Corleonesi call the SS. Crucifix on which they rely for the prosperity of the crops; the historical re-enactment Medieval Echoes; and other events.
