Feast of the Most Holy Crucifix in Isnello

The feast of the Holy Crucifix in Isnello is a moment awaited and attended by the entire population. The feast traditionally takes place between the end of April and the beginning of May.
The feast day is preceded by a period of preparation known as crunedda, days in which songs and prayers are recited in dialect.
On the feast day there is a suggestive procession of the Most Holy Crucifix of Santa Maria Maggiore, carried on the shoulders of the members of the Confraternity of the Assunta. These wear a white robe with a cross embroidered on the chest and a light blue belt.
In the afternoon of the feast day, before the holy celebration, the frottole are played and sung. The Frottole are sacred hymns, performed with the orchestra, which the confraternities of Isnello commissioned from Sicilian composers in the 19th century. The tradition of Frottole is inscribed in the Register of Intangible Heritage of the Sicily region.
