Feast of the Holy Crucifix of Papardura

According to popular belief, the Sanctuary was born in the place where the shepherds and farmers, who once lived in this area, saw the miraculous image of Christ imprinted on the rock, still visible today in a niche nearby of the church. By will of the shepherds and farmers themselves, the Papardura festival was born.
From the beginning of September the "massari", i.e. the farmers, carry out the tour of the city to collect the offerings and the traditional distribution of the "santini", with a followed by ciaramelli or hangnails, typical popular musical instruments, and some festively decorated mules.
On holiday days, tastings of the "cudduredde" made by housewives in the area and distributed to the faithful are organised.
September 14th in the Calvary of Papardura, in memory of the life of Jesus Christ, is blessed with the relic of the Holy Thorn.
On the occasion of the celebrations, the traditional September Fair is organized in Piazza Europa.
