Santissimo Crocifisso di Aracoeli

The Santissimo Crucifisso di Aracoeli in San Marco d'Alunzio is a heartfelt and participatory religious event that represents an ancient rite of penance and usually takes place on the last Friday of the month of March. The penitential procession of the babbaluti, hooded men and women, winds through the medieval streets of the ancient village, carrying the Crucifix and the painting of the Virgin with her heart pierced by seven silver swords on their shoulders.< br>The procession ends in the Ara Coeli church, where the sapurcu (tomb) is set up, decorated with red and yellow drapes and illuminated by hundreds of candles
