Feast of San Nicola Salemi
The feast of San Nicola, Patron and Protector of Salemi, takes place on the feast of the Patronage which traditionally occurs on the last Sunday of May.
The celebrations begin on the Sunday before with the announcement through the streets of the historic center, the liturgical celebration and procession of the simulacrum which ends with the delivery of the 5 keys of the ancient city to the Saint.
The pilgrimage to the statue of St. Nicholas in Piazza Libertà takes place on the following Wednesday.
Sunday morning takes place parade of flag wavers and a musical band through the streets of the historic center. In the afternoon, at the end of the solemn Eucharistic celebration in the Mother Church, the procession of the simulacrum takes place through the streets of the historic center.
