Palio of San Filadelfo in San Fratello
The Palio di San Filadelfo, also known as the Palio degli Aleramici, takes place every year in San Fratello on the Sunday before May 10, the day on which the Patron Saints of San Fratello are celebrated, and in the month of August.< br>The Palio degli Aleramici is a historical re-enactment of the entry of the Grand Count Ruggero, of the Noble Aleramica Adelaide del Vasto and of the Lombard Knights following them, into the re-founded land of San Philadelpho.
The event is sponsored by the Municipality of San Fratello and organized by the founding committee, which aims to enhance the history, culture, Gallo-Italic language of San Fratello and the Sanfratellano horse.
On the occasion of the event, a large historical procession takes place, various events are organized suitable for recreating the medieval atmosphere, such as exhibitions of jugglers, flag-wavers and drummers, medieval games and medieval-style festivals where you can taste typical local products.
Meetings and cultural events are also organized on the ancient Gallo-Italic language still spoken in San Fratello, handed down by the Longobard people who settled in the village following the Noble Aleramica Adelasia del Vasto.
