Easter in Alcamo - The Passion of Christ
The rites of Holy Week in Alcamo are moments rich in faith and tradition.
The representation of the Passion of Christ is very evocative, a traveling sacred representation that sees the participation of numerous figures in period costume who retrace the salient moments of the Passion of Jesus Christ.
Among other moments: the traditional blessing of the palms and olive branches on Palm Sunday; the visit to the Sepulchres, or tabernacles of the various churches of the city that are decorated with flowers and sprouts of grains of wheat or legumes, during the day of Holy Thursday; the procession of Good Friday with the simulacrum of the Addolorata and the urn of Jesus, preceded by a long line of faithful and children wearing the clothes of the Addolorata, the Samaritan, Saint Michael and Saint Rita; At midnight on Easter Saturday, the most evocative function of Holy Week takes place in the Mother Church during which, with a machine hidden behind the main altar, the statue of the Risen Jesus is thrown high into the air
