Easter in Corleone
During Holy Week in Corleone, ancient and traditional processions take place whose origins date back to the 15th century.
The Good Friday procession is particularly evocative: a centuries-old rite accompanied by the sounds of troccole, drums and "maschi ".
Members of the White brotherhoods take part in the Good Friday procession in Corleone. They wear the cammìsu, a long white linen shirt, a cape whose color identifies the brotherhood and on their head a hood whose upper end is pleated like a fan. At the head of the procession is the Great Cross and two lanterns that symbolize divine light. Funeral songs are sung along the procession, accompanied by the sound of the band and the characteristic noise of the troccola' which marks the time of the exit of the simulacrum of Our Lady of Sorrows from its church. The shot of a tamp instead symbolizes the Mother's pain for the death of her Son. The procession continues beyond midnight.
