Easter in Giarratana
Easter in Giarratana is a time of great faith and tradition that involves the entire community.
In this village the tradition of the velata survives: during the 40 days of Lent, large decorated cloths are placed to hide the altar where the Risen Christ is placed.
The rites of Holy Week begin on Palm Sunday with the traditional blessing of palms and olive branches.
On Holy Thursday, the traditional Altar of Reposition is set up.
On Easter Sunday, the svelata, or calata a tila, takes place, which shows the Risen Christ to the faithful.
