The nativity in the Mangiapane Cave

The visit to the living nativity scene of Custonaci will start from the historic center of the town, where it will be possible to admire the Christmas markets. From there, with the shuttle buses, you will reach the village, and then the Mangiapane cave, with houses, stables for animals, a chapel, shops and a wood-burning oven. To access the nativity scene inside the cave, you will need to have a ticket which can be purchased at the ticket office at the foot of the Sanctuary

The living nativity scene of Custonaci takes place in the magical location of the Mangiapane Grotto in Borgo Scurati.
In the rural houses and stables built between the 19th and 20th centuries close to the rocky walls by families of shepherds, relive the uses, customs and traditions of Sicily through the extraordinary re-enactment of the event of the Nativity.
The entire local community joins true artisans and artists of the place and of the villages neighbors, to stage a unique show, which faithfully reproduces the execution of ancient crafts. The Living Nativity of Custunaci is therefore considered to date the greatest event for the enhancement of Sicilian crafts and popular traditions . In 2006 it became part of the Intangible Assets of the Sicilian Region .
The event is known throughout Italy thanks to the extraordinary suggestiveness of the representation and the particularity of the location.
