The Almond Blossom Festival is a great festival that takes place every year at the beginning of March and aims to celebrate the arrival of spring with the blossoming of the almond trees and to rejoice in the return of life. Numerous folk groups come to Agrigento from all over the world to take part. During the festival it is possible to attend performances by folk groups through the city streets, folk music shows and many typical Sicilian tastings. The city of Agrigento and the wonderful Valley of the Temples frame the events together with the flowering almond trees.
Among the most evocative moments of the Almond Blossom festival are the lighting of the Tripod of friendship in front of the Concordia temple, which traditionally will kick off the festival, the torchlight procession of friendship , the parade of folk groups with Sicilian carts up to the Valley of the Temples.
The party ends with a colorful show at the foot of the temple of Concordia, in front of the temple of Hercules, instead, you can attend the award ceremony of the Golden Temple, a highly coveted prize and awarded by an international jury to the best folkloric groups.
